I Remember Dave Brubeck - A tribute to the master.

The late, great Dave Brubeck had a huge influence on jazz musicians, jazz fans, and on the jazz itself. Millions grew up listening to his recordings, and many of his compositions have become part of the soundtrack of America. SJW faculty artists Joe Gilman and Taylor Eigsti are particularly qualified to direct the all-star band that will pay tribute to Dave and his music at this special show.
Of Taylor, Dave said, “He’s the most amazing talent I’ve ever come across.” Of Dave, Taylor says, “He was family, and I am thankful that I had so many opportunities to spend time with him and play music with him over the last 16 years. He set an example for every musician as to how to treat people, and how to play and create music nearly every second you have on this earth.”
Joe also has a close connection with Dave, having been closely involved with the Brubeck Institute for many years. “Dave was my musical father and role model,” says Joe. “For the greater general public, Dave was that hip and cerebral jazz cat from the 1950s who recorded ‘Take Five.’ To many jazz musicians, Dave was a fine composer, exceptional bandleader, innovative pianist, and craftsman of brilliantly produced acoustic jazz recordings.
For those more familiar with Dave’s extended body of work, they will tell of his tremendous humanitarian efforts across the globe and his bandleading of some of the first military and commercial racially integrated jazz ensembles. In my unique position with the Brubecks and at the Institute, I would like to tell you more.”
