Very excited to announce the release of "Brubeck - Bold & Brassy" by the fantastic Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York, featuring compositions by Dave and by me. They even let me sit in on trombone a little.
Notes on release.
As a jazz musician, pianist, and writer of many great tunes he was indisputably on a level of his own. But there was much more to Dave's music and his talents as a composer. This recording provides a glimpse into the depth of Dave's vast and wonderful musical world, which ranged well beyond the world of jazz in which he is most well-known. Dave's catalog also included a broad output of written and classical compositions, which always provide windows into the sound world that was uniquely his own.
In his later years, Dave and his multi-instrumentalist son Chris, who played alongside his father as well as in his own bands, continued their onstage collaborations, as well as composing together, and it was under the guidance of Chris that this recording was made, just prior to Dave's death in 2012.

The Iconic name of Brubeck combining the virtuosity of Gramercy Brass Orchestra offers a BOLD & BRASSY collaboration of innovative music and powerful performance.
BRUBECK - BOLD & BRASSY is a showcase of extraordinary brass and percussion talent and an interpretation of music by Dave and Chris Brubeck, never before heard this way.
Chris Brubeck appears on the disk performing the opening movement of his own FIRST BASS TROMBONE CONCERTO, along with a full brass band representation of his demanding overture, ON THE THRESHOLD OF LIBERTY. The music of Dave Brubeck shows the world that he was indeed a prolific composer of modern classical music beyond the global notoriety of his jazz piano and jazz standard compositions. Dave Brubeck's music is presented through excerpts from his many cantatas for chorus and various forms of orchestra, as well as orchestral works that he composed over his long and illustrious career.
Chris Brubeck further helped to guide much of this recording to historical and interpretive accuracy both at recording sessions and with commentary in the liner notes. The project is produced by eOne’s multi-talented classical label producer, Susan Napodano DelGiorno and engineered and mastered by Silas Brown (Legacy Sound) with package art work by Scott Harris (Best Content Solutions.) BRUBECK - BOLD & BRASSY marks Gramercy Brass Orchestra’s third commercial release on the eOne label (formerly Koch Records).
